​Aging-In-Place, New Construction, 4,000 sq. ft.

SUMMARY: This project was about a multi-generational family of six.

During the recent Global pandemic, the family’s most senior members moved in from New Orleans to help the young couple and their two kids. Their house was working well for them, but with multi-generations living together and a new way of living, working and home schooling, they require a renovation and an addition their home to better fit, their new lifestyles.

CONCEPT: My design concept for this project was Nurtured Technology and Serenity in order to create a calm space where three very different generations will live, work and play while respecting each family members needs for connection to each other along with the nature.     

My two main objectives were to marry their desire for a connection to nature with a smart home technology-rich environment. The seniors liked more natural lights and with a garden view to reduced stress and enhance their family moods. The young couple liked to leverage technology everywhere for their advancement including the use case of preserving the nature such as solar energy and smart devices. 

       

      ​To achieved my goals and for ease of used, I added SimpliSafe Home Security System and large windows to have more natural lights with visual connection to the garden. I implemented Universal Design strategies and to address the need for privacy, the design included two separate living areas for both households. I added bold color, large scale artwork, ADA Roll-in shower and ADA Walk-in Bathtub for the seniors. Moreover, I added solar panels and a rainwater harvesting tank for recycling water. I used green materials to reduce waste and implement sustainable guidelines for an energy efficient home. The same attention to technology will be carried to the exterior environment as well with a drip irrigation Rachio watering system which is an efficient way to water their edible garden.
